PRESS RELEASE (Literacy Match Opportunity Honoring Cindy Donaldson)

Longview, WA-United Way of Cowlitz & Wahkiakum Counties is proud to announce a matching funds opportunity for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library program in honor of Cindy Donaldson, City of Kelso’s beloved Library Manager who passed away in August. The Kelso Rotary Foundation has arranged in coordination with Cindy’s husband, Cal Schimpf to provide up to $10,000 of matching funds to encourage community contributions to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library program. Cindy worked for the City of Kelso for 36 years, and was very passionate about child literacy, which she made a priority in supporting during her life.

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library program provides free brand-new age-appropriate books to children (birth-5 years old) residing in Cowlitz or Wahkiakum Counties. The books are mailed directly to the child’s home every single month until they turn 5. This program is considered world-class for reducing barriers to books, improving family engagement and Kindergarten assessment preparedness.

United Way of Cowlitz & Wahkiakum Counties seeks local support in honoring Cindy’s legacy by donating to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library program. Contributions can be made at www.cowlitzunitedway.org (Cindy Donaldson tab on left), or cash and checks are accepted via mail to United Way at 1338 Commerce Ave., Suite 206-Longview, WA 98632. Please indicate on mailed contribution’s that this is for Cindy Donaldson’s Legacy.
